Avinash Arun • India • 2014 • A coming-of-age tale of a shy boy in a tiny coastal village in Konkan.
Chinu is a shy but very clever 11-year-old boy. He has recently moved with his mother, a bureaucrat, from Pune to a tiny coastal village in Konkan. Missing his father, who has recently passed away, his best friend, and his old school, he is trying with varying degrees of success to adjust to a new life. Passing a fellow classmate some math answers one day, he is finally invited into the orbit of the local boys, where many misadventures await him.
Steeped in the mesmerizing landscape of the west India coast, Killa (The Fort) weaves a soulful and understated coming-of-age tale with delightful performances from its young protagonists. Veteran cinematographer Avinash Arun’s directorial debut premiered at Berlin, where it won the Crystal Bear for Best Film - Generation Kplus.
