Animals
Queer Awakenings • 1h 34m
Marcal Fores • Spain • 2012 • A fresh, inventive take on first love.
Pol is a seventeen year old boy, shy and socially withdrawn. He has a few friends at school, who share his interest in alternative music, but spends most of his time with Deerhoof, a sentient teddy bear. With his parents decidedly absent, Pol’s much older brother Llorenç decides it’s time to put Deerhoof away. But with the arrival of a strapping new male student at school sending Pol into a spiral of confused sexuality, he needs his talking bear more than ever.
Imbued with oneiric aesthetics and a hypnotic soundscape, Animals is a strange and stylish Catalan coming-of-age film. Marçal Forés’s debut feature premiered at Miami, San Sebastián, and Outfest, where it won an Award for Artistic Achievement.
