Based on the true story of Legion of Christ founder Marcial Marcial.
Thirteen years old, Julian has been sent to study the word of God at a Catholic seminary. He soon learns that on this journey to priesthood, even more valuable than one’s love for Christ is one’s unquestioned obedience to authority. The boys’ teacher is Father Angel de la Cruz, a charismatic leader who singles out Julian as possessing a rare potential. When the pastor invites Julian to his home to continue his training, he unwittingly enters a new realm of education.
Based on the true story of Legion of Christ founder Marcial Marcial, Perfect Obedience wades into the lurid waters of sex abuse inside the Catholic Church. Luis Urquiza’s debut film premiered at Montréal World Film Festival, where it won the Glauber Rocha Award and the Grand Prix des Amériques; and Camerimage, where it won the Jury Award for Best Directorial Debut.
