Aimie’s family has recently immigrated from South Korea. They live in a bleak, wintry town in North America, their isolation underscored by the layers of snow that fall seemingly without end. Aimie has feelings for her best friend Tran, who treats her with ambivalence. Desperate for connection, Aimie overlooks Tran’s conflicting impulses toward her, preferring the warmth of his infrequent embrace to a life spent alone.
Capturing the uncertainty of youth in silent moments of miscommunication, In Between Days is a minimalist but authentic exploration of the particular loneliness facing teenage immigrants. So Yong Kim’s debut film premiered at Sundance, where it won a Special Jury Prize; Berlin, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize; and BAFICI - Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema, where it won Best Film and Best Actress.
