Jake is an American adrift in Porto, the ancient Portuguese city. Exiled from his family and with no clear direction in life, Jake wanders the tiny streets and back-alleys looking for something, but unsure what. After spotting a lovely French girl at an archaeological site, then a train station, and finally at a café, Jake works up the courage to talk to her. The easy intimacy of a one-night tryst with Mati, a student from France, swells into infatuation that haunts Jake for years to come.
Starring Anton Yelchin in his final screen role, Porto cinematically evokes the Portuguese concept of saudade—an emotional state of nostalgic longing for a person or place that one has loved. Gabe Klinger’s first film premiered at IFFR - International Film Festival Rotterdam, SXSW, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and São Paulo.
