Daughters of Dolma

Daughters of Dolma

Adam Miklos • Nepal-U.K. • 2013 • A distinctively female experience of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.

In Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, female nuns live with surprising exposure to both traditional and contemporary ways of life. In addition to the pursuit of spiritual attainments, such as compassion and kindness, the nuns at Karma Ngoedhon Osal Choekhorling and Karma Samte Ling Nunneries watch soccer, read American novels, and listen to Michael Jackson.

Presenting a distinctively female experience of Tibetan Buddhism, Daughters of Dolma examines its subjects as full individuals beyond their monastic vows and religious practices. Adam Miklos’s first documentary premiered at IDFA and the Barcelona International Film Festival, where it won the El Rey Award for Excellence in Documentary Narrative Filmmaking.
