A dark comedy satirizing the Venezuelan beauty industry.
Perla is a middle-aged seamstress, aging and a bit portly. She once dreamed of being a beauty queen, and like many mothers in Venezuela she sees the pageant circuit as her family’s ticket out of poverty. Thankfully she has two daughters, Carolina and Estefania. Completely ignoring her son, Salvador, Perla thus dives headlong into the single-minded pursuit of cultivating her girls into pageant princesses. All dreams, however, come at a cost.
Sharply satirizing the Venezuelan beauty industry, 3 Beauties is a darkly comedic parable of our contemporary image culture. Carlos Caridad-Montero’s second feature film premiered at the Festival del Cine Venezolano, where it won Best Camera.
