At 16 Justine is a brilliant and promising student. Everyone in her family is a veterinarian, and a vegetarian. When she starts at veterinary school Justine enters a decadent, merciless and dangerously seductive world. She is desperate to fit in whatever the cost and thus strays from her family principles and she eats raw meat for the first time. This act leads her down a tense, escalating path as her true self begins to emerge.
French director Julia Ducournau's feature film debut is a startling, original work that explores genre, feminism and cannibalism with a clever and stylish hand. Raw won the FIPRESCI Prize last year at Cannes' Semaine de la Critique, and is now playing this week at the Angelika.
