The Brooklyn Academy of Music's annual BAMcinemaFest celebrates independent cinema of all forms— shorts, documentaries and new feature work from established directors and unknowns alike. Of particular interest are the NY premiere of Rotterdam breakout Radio Dreams, Babak Jalali's stunning meditation on the realities of expatriate life of the Iranian diaspora in San Francisco; and A Stray, Musa Syeed's parable of one man's life inside Minneapolis' underrepresented Somali refugee community. Authentic, humanistic representation of these experiences in film have never been more pressing.
Introductions and Q&A's with the filmmakers accompany a number of the screenings. BAMcinemaFest 2016 opens tomorrow, June 15th and runs through the 26th.
