"By turns raw, dreamy, harsh, sensuous, touching, intimate, garrulous and elliptical"
After playing at Sundance and Cannes' Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Chloé Zhao's striking debut feature opens today at Film Forum. Shot in the Badlands of South Dakota's Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Zhao's subjects are real-life Lakota Native American teenagers: never before portrayed on film. The result is a surreally beautiful portrait of the historic culture and marginalized existence of America's Native population.
Through Tuesday, March 15th.
