"This first-time helmer has the potential to become one of Italy's most prominent new voices"
- Venice Review, Variety
Piero Messina delivers an atmospheric experience of grief with his directorial debut, L'attesa (The Wait). The young Italian's command of space, time and sound may echo of Sorrentino, to whom Messina served as Assistant Director for many years— including on La grande belleza. Yet L'attesa is a masterful work of minimalism in and of itself, adapting a Pirandello play of a mother's mourning into nuanced Christian allegory. Juliette Binoche's performance was widely praised following the film's Venice premiere.
L'attesa opens tomorrow at the Sunshine Cinema New York City.
