"This is important"
- Laurence Anyways
Dark days are ahead for the United States. We must examine how pervasive media coverage can act as an echo chamber, blinding us to diversity of thought. We must examine the consequences of all media— of cinema. Cinema seeks to portray the world we live in, in turn shaping that world. Too often, mainstream cinema reinforces white hegemony, violence, and the fallacy of the American Dream as a tale of individual enrichment rather than equality.
Filmatique would like to emphasize now, more than ever, that it stands by its friends— be they Muslim American, Mexican American, African American, Asian American; gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer or transgender; be they rich or poor— its friends of all origins, colors and faiths.
Their stories must be told. Filmatique's raison d'être is to actively promote narratives from diverse milieux, particularly those underrepresented in mainstream media.
Because discourse is what matters. Indeed, it is the only way to pierce the echo chamber.
