Nine years after his wife left him for his best friend, hapless journalist Abel falls into a relationship with Marianne, an old flame who has been recently widowed. Soon enough, however, a wily jeune femme professes her love for Abel; meanwhile, Marianne's young son insists that his father's death was no accident. Suddenly adrift once more, Abel must determine which course to pursue in his life.
A farcical Parisian romp that playfully subverts the patriarchal conventions of the French New Wave, A Faithful Man mines humor from subtle and unexpected places. Actor/director Louis Garrel's second feature premiered at Toronto and is a New York Times Critics' Pick. Opening Friday, July 19th in NYC.
